Community Engaged Research/Health Policy (CER/HP)

Community Engaged Research/Health Policy (CER/HP) Component

The CTSI-CN promotes community engagement in research by building long-term, bi-directional partnerships with clinical and community organizations in the Washington, DC, area. We help investigators use principles and methods of community engagement in their clinical and translational research. We ensure that the voice of local communities is part of the research process, building trust and lasting relationships that lead to sustainable changes in community health.

Community engagement initiatives include:

  • Community Advisory Board comprised of local DC organizations, for perspective on research priorities, methodologies, and focus
  • Science Cafes to foster dialogue between the public and researchers
  • Consultation and academic courses in community-based health, policy, and translational research, including comparative effectiveness research
  • Online training for community health centers in research design, conduct, and dissemination
  • Matching of investigators and community representatives for collaboration across similar research interests
  • Staffing of Internal Review Boards with diverse community members
