Seminar title: From Patient Data through Computable Medical Knowledge to Actionable Recommendations: Clinical Decision Support for Health Professionals
Speaker: Mary K. Goldstein, MD, MS in HSR, Professor of Medicine, Stanford University
Abstract: Medical knowledge encoded in computable knowledge bases can incorporate details that allow for generating recommendations to take account of multiple clinical characteristics of patients. Such recommendations are highly patient-specific and include recognition of comorbidities and drug-disease interactions. This talk will describe the sequence of developing, implementing, and evaluating a knowledge-based system built with Protégé that has been used extensively in patient care settings to display clinical recommendations for hypertension management in primary care settings and is now being extended to diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
